>>10075get an old one supported by libreboot, the holy grail is generally considered to be the X200 because its compact and tiny, has good battery life, a decent CPU (mobile chipset and battery saving but not too shitty and underpowered, its basically as powerful as a T400), is piss easy to libreboot, and lacks a touchpad.
>whats the point of trackpointsif you ever used one you'd know lmao, the point is that touchpads were (and still are) utter garbage
theyre absolutely unusable for any precision pointing and take time to move your hand to, also clicking is a pain in the ass, selecting stuff even more, especially if you have modern bullshit where the buttons arent separate but rather hidden under the touchpad edges you press on and bend, which is utter mental retardation.
tl;dr its compact, easy to reach, better to use, faster to get work done with, thus more productive, thus includes on thinkpads because theyre work laptops and not silly toys like macbooks.
theres a good reason why there are thinkpads all over the ISS rather than macbooks you know...
>>10081also this, with modern past-2008 shit you basically only pay for the brand, AND you get a ton of backdoors on anything past core 2 duo (aka GM45, aka Cantiga/CTG, aka XX00 series) which you cant fully remove, but merely "disable" (like the IME)
>>10093>muh ultrabook pro plus ultra>muh quadcoreeven doe you can put a quad core into a T400/T500/W500
and even doe quad cores will have worse performance and power draw than dual cores if you assume that the performance is split in 2 for each core, and that the cores are doubled (so same complete performance, less single core performance)
theres a reason that meme anniversary edition limited whatever soyjak thinkpad has a dual core
>>10093LMAO do wintoddlers seriously not have working mice?
i laugh.
