If you're still paranoid, here's how to set up a VM
assuming you're on winblows, get VirtualBox or VMware (I prefer the latter since it has better video performance, but the former is open sores if you want that)
windows will be way too heavy for a VM, so get a Linux distro. Basically anything will do; if you want something that 'just werks' get fedora silverblue. make sure you get an ISO.
open your VM software and create a VM, it should guide you through the process
