Is PHP still worth learning in 2023?

more than ever. there is no other language that is getting better and adding tons of new stuff at every release at the same pace of PHP.
people make fun of PHP because it was actually awful at the times of PHP4, but it became a completely new language in the meantime.
it's literally the fastest non-compiled language in the world and the ecosystem is excellent too. Eloquent is hands off the best ORM i've ever tried and Laravel is great too.
if you're the kind of guy who likes buying and reading physical books like me, i recommend pic related to start.

PHP is spiritually the same as COBOL, Fortran and arguably C in that they are old, antiquated and clunky languages that no one likes to use and everyone makes fun of, but that are the backbone of entire industries and western civilization as we know it would collapse without them.
Now that you have shit like Laravel PHP is not that bad so webdevs can make simple PHP without a PHP guy, unlike COBOL there's still plenty of boomers that know and use PHP so its not as well paid, and its only use is in webdev so its not like learning python or C.
You'd still be part of a relative minority thoUGH and unless AI takes over its a pretty secure job so if you have nothing better going on and youre on webdev its still worth learning.

i'm 15 so don't have a webdev job or anything. but i'll go pick up a book on it and try to learn it. thanks for the advice

>in that they are old, antiquated and clunky languages
no it isnt, you're thinking of PHP4
>and its only use is in webdev
>You'd still be part of a relative minority
webdev is all that's left of the software industry lmao, hardly a "minority"

I was thinking of 6. PHP8 is not as bad for what it does but still ass compared to a real programming language. PHP doesnt die because its already there, not because its any good.
>webdev is all that's left of the software industry
mongoloid

>>7337
Learn a general purpose language first before going into DSLs. Do python or C++. Ideally C++.

>PHP8 is not as bad for what it does but still ass compared to a real programming language
lol, such as?
>>webdev is all that's left of the software industry

Manually typing 0s and 1s on notepad.exe (like vim but good)
>webdev
99% of the software you're using right now to shitpost is not webdev

PHP is very good for webstuff, which is also where all the jobs are. It's also the language of wordpress, which for all its many flaws, is very popular and a source of easy money.
