Windows was developed by Microsoft. NT is based on ideas from OS/2 (which Microsoft developed with IBM) and VMS/MICA operating systems developed by Dave Cutler before he worked on NT. It should be noted that NT does not contain code from VMS or MICA but rather shares ideas.

Nigger, the entire purpose of a microkernel is so that one driver failing doesn't bring down the entire system. That's the entire point of using a microkernel. A video driver can crash on windows and it will fallback to the default video driver while if a video driver crashes on Linux, the entire kernel will either crash or X will crash, closing all your programs with it.
Linuxtroons can't do anything but repeat nonsense about windows "bluescreening" all the time and whine about the registry (which is a far more sensical solution for configuration than dumping random files into /etc ~/.config ~/.local/config /opt /usr/share /usr/X11/share /var/lib /lib/systemd/ or wherever else the program feels like it.) Linuxtroons will whine that you have to customize Windows but will happily reflash their bios every time they want to change default boot order and fuck with their Xorg configs because the video driver is broken.

Windows Registry is fucking garbage. Programs on Windows throw garbage upon garbage in the Windows Registry system to the point Windows runs like pure shit and the only solution is to reinstall Windows. At least with Linux with their dot config files, you can just wipe them out and start fresh that way as messy as they can be. But a solution like that is non-existent on Windows and most people resort to reinstalling it because of how utterly retarded the whole registry concept is and how poorly it was implemented.

Because the registry is a binary structure in memory managed by the kernel it is faster than file i/o would be. And you do not have to do text processing like with /proc entries. Storing config in files is spatially inefficient as the file size is rounded up to the nearest cluster. You also do not have a bunch of incompatible variants of INI to learn to modify the registry.

10 years of support is pretty good seeing that you are getting at most 4 years of support for the average Linux distro. And you will have to update your distro earlier if you want newer packages because often you are stuck with old packages on older releases. And good luck updating. I had Ubuntu 15.04 on a computer and it was a PITA to get it to a state where it could be updated to 22.04 because the repositories were deleted.

Wrong. Mary Maxwell sat on the board of IBM which allowed Gates to get the contract for the PC operating system. Microsoft bought 86DOS from Tim Paterson and released an improved version as IBM PC-DOS. 86DOS is a clone of Digital Research's CP/M, but without multiuser (not the kind you are thinking of) support. 86DOS contains no code from CP/M and was written in x86 Assembly while CP/M was written in PL/M. IBM did reach out to Digital Research to license CP/M but the most likely reason that they didn't get the contract was because DR sold CP/M for more money than Microsoft would sell PC-DOS for. Windows NT is completely unrelated to Gates and is the brainchild of Dave Cutler.
