>don't fall for the crttroon meme
Okay glownigger

 8188

>>8185
>using modern technology makes you a glownigger now

 8189

i miss analog cable on crts, back then it was gemmy
before the tv's barely had anything digital and you could instantly flip through all the channels and had a million knobs to adjust the contrast, color temperature, etc

>>8174
holy shit nigger CRTs cost too much money, my CRT is like $950 and for that price I can get a 240hz OLED monitor

Protip: Don't buy CRTs on the internet; it's a massive scam perpetrated by reddit retro game youtubers and ebay scalpers
INSTEAD, look for places in your area where people dump garbage. If you can drive it should speed up the process considerably but I take walks. Of course you can't get lucky every time but I've gotten 4 CRTs this way.

 8213

>>8203
Who in their right fucking mind would pay $950 for a CRT?
>>8212
I got an old Magnavox doing something similar but it only has an antenna port sadly.

 8216

>>8213
People like OP, half the cost is shipping

 8263

>>8213
I hate crts and I want to go dumpster diving now

2070SB
GDM-FW900
GDM-F520
and all their rebrands/clones
basically, look for trinitron/diamondtron tubes, or anything with -tron in the name (which means its a clone)
you can identify them by their flat glass, its either completely flat or only horizontally curved, but completely flat vertically, so more like a slice of a big pipe rather than a slice of a sphere.
that is, if you want a CRT monitor, CRT TVs are good for hecking retroomer gaming but dogshit for being used as monitors, theyre designed to make low res (320x240/640x480) look good, and usually operate at 50/60Hz
monitors are designed to run at 60-160+Hz and do any resolution you prefer, usually between 480p and 2K or so, different monitors have different frequency ranges but most high-end CRTs will do 1600x1200@85Hz just fine, which is basically the standard resolution for high end CRT monitors, and what they are optimized for as well.
>>8188
it makes you a stupid niggerlicious goy, flatscreens are for cattle.
>>8189
now switching channels takes about 3 seconds, the same goes for mode switching on VGA vs HDMI/DP
it takes less than half a second on VGA to switch your mode, but more like 5 seconds on HDMI
many older games did this for menus to display more detail in a high res menu on a lower refresh rate, but have the game running at a lower res and higher refresh rate for better performance and a smoother game.
>>8203
that is if you only check ebay once and dont lurk enough, you have to lurk for weeks or even months to find a cheap good tube, basically what >>8212 said
if you have some sites like ebay-kleinanzeigen, craigs-list, etc... youre lucky, otherwise check fleamarkets and dumpster sales.
>>8213
someone who doesnt want to spend weeks lurking on fleamarkets and websites, and wants a monitor that beats every single OLED/QLED meme out there in nearly every aspect except for weight
>>8216
true, DONT ship CRTs. you have a 20-60% chance for it to break during transport because they are heavy and fragile, and postal niggers aren't very careful with their freight.
>>8263
why would you hate CRTs?
they can literally do any resolution and refresh rate in their frequency range, have perfect latency (none), and perfect motion blur (also none)
go see for yourself, https://testufo.com
follow the ufo with your eyes and see how fucking blurry it looks on a flatscreen, on a CRT it looks just like a real image while its moving, zero blur.
if you hate (proprietary) JS or JS in general, and don't want to run poorly performing JudaScript webshit, there is a native C++ version too, but you need to patch it a bit to make it work, i wrote a script for that (ignore the mental illness, i dont want 20 patch files cluttering around the script)
https://cia.govt.hu/datamining/buildmotiontestsuite.sh
>>8203
but can the oled piece of shit display your stuff at 420Hz with zero motion blur and nearly zero latency?
enjoy your burnin lol

 8346

do people still use this board?

 8357

>>8346
i use this board

 8375

its slow but not dead

>get crt to own the chuds
>phosphor has BBC burnt in
>cathode emission is fucked, image is dim
>noisy
>heater reads open
>CRT cant be replaced because nobody makes them
>custom component inside died and is irreplaceable
>the 40yo electrolytics dry up,
>this also destroys all the nearby parts
>dies instantly trying to repair it
>image quality sucks anyway because the bandwidth & focus is shit
>only 480 scanlines (interlaced)
>each frame still blurs because of the phosphor persistence

>BBC burnin
happens if you display the same image for 10 years straight, on OLEDs it happens after a week
>image is dim
happens after 20+ years of runtime, OLEDs are much worse and barely have better blacks than CRTs
>noisy
only TVs are noisy
>heater reads open
what do you mean?
>cant be replaced wah wah
buy a new one for 20$ or repair it
>custom component or something
you can find the schematics on the internet, 90% of the components that arent the tube itself or the flyback transformer are off the shelf parts like standard capacitors and some ICs, theyre very easy to replace too because its actually possible to solder them by hand without needing an electron microscope because its designed to be easy to repair, unlike modern cancer tech with those tiny block capacitors.
>40 year old electrolytes dry up
yeah, replace it
>destroys all nearby parts
the worst thing that could happen is that you get shit like a vertical collapse or dying image, just replace the caps and itll work again
>die trying to repair it
only if youre a retarded redditor who is too retarded to decharge fucking caps before messing around with them
>image quality sucks
better than any <4K flatscreen, especially for shit like gaming, where you actually WANT a blurrier image for natural anti aliasing
>only 480 scanlines
thats a lie doe
>muh blur
only happens if white or something close to it moves on a black background slowly, still nowhere nearly as bad as OLED or LCD coal
