I would buy a crt if I could find one in my country that is larger than 14 inches and doesn't cost $1000+. All retrogamers are hoarding them and selling them for a fortune.

 10067

>>10060
true, fuck retroomers
you should always lurk on ebay and fleamarket sites like craigs list, or whatever the equivalent is in your country
if youre lucky youll find some trinitron rebrand/clone, theyre usually very good, so look out for anything that looks flat or only horizontally curved, or has -tron in the name, and dont pay more than 100$ for it
i got my 2070sb rebrand for 50$, it was just a pain in the ass to transport, but its 40x30cm in size (visible area), as well as 50cm diagonally.

I see alot of CRTs sitting out in the dump/recycling place and they are exposed to the rain/sun. It makes me sad. Is there any chance they still work? I am considering raiding the compound.

Anyway crt's are fucking cool. Stop saying they are heavy you zoomers. It literally a heckin particle accelerator vacuume tooberino made of soyence.

the difference is gigantic, i dont even consider flatscreens to be real monitors
X11 and any other graphical computer software was designed around CRTs, modelines exist only for CRTs, and digital video is literally just castrated poorfag vga, you could push 4K through VGA on 20 year old monitors and on 15 year old hardware, while HDMI was still shitting its pants with 4K@60
playing video games with any movement is literally impossible on flatscreens once you got used to CRTs, you will get REALLY GOOD at games if you dont have any motion blur, latency, wasted performance and more latency because of a non-native resolution, etc...
just look at what i do after playing crazy taxi for a week or 2, now you go try to do the same - but on a flatscreen.
go ahead, im waiting!
the rom i used is here btw
https://cia.govt.hu/datamining/crazytaxi/
just use flycast btw, default difficulty options, no cheats or savestates
>>10084
seethe gayland virgin, you will never interlace.
>>10087
yes, chances are they are still working, but if you take one home PLEASE clean it first and get rid of any potential water/moisture, or you might have an exploding vacuum tube full of leaded glass on your floor, or a few popping capacitors
theyre not fun to deal with.
if it works, it works
if it doesnt, go build an xray gun from it and kill cia niggers with röntgen radiation

I mean that the computers used actual diodes as display not LED screens.
Just LEDs showing outputs in binary with 1 being lit and 0 being off.
Many computers didn't have the ability to output to a CRT and shit.

What's so great about a package manager anyway? What if there is an EMP attack or some shit? I like to keep a copy of everything needed to rebuild my comfy win7 machine back up from scratch. Granted, if you are building your linux off local copies of source code then hats off, but no you are all using apt-get. I know linux is superior in general but you nigger faggots are so smug about it it makes me sick.

 10168

Semiconductor displays in the 40s? Those were neons, not light-emitting diodes

 10169

>>10137
Practical LEDs came in the sixties, these indicators were incandescent or neon. Also there were practical CRT displays since perhaps the fifties, mostly military systems. They had light stylus inputs and built-in ashtrays, pretty cool. The big board at NASA used a type of projector technology called an Eidophor.

you mean some flatscreen gameboy piece of shit that needs backlight, will never display blacks as blacks, cant run at custom resolutions or refresh rates, cant interlace, and will always get BTFOd by the shittiest and cheapest CRT in terms of motion blur, colour accuracy (especially black), latency, and smooth anti aliased video?
LOL, X11 and all the other shit that isnt gayland was written for CRTs, so was DOS and winkike
flatscreens are literally just a hack and a castrated circumcised ripoff display for crappy pocket calculators.
>>10124
CRTs were invented in 1897 though
>>10126
>durr hurr outdated
>j-just get a hecking lcd!1!
LCDs fucking suck, they have a ton of latency, slow pixel response time, dont flicker and thus have a ton of motion blur, have physical pixels and thus can ONLY DISPLAY ONE RESOLUTION, and usually only support 1 or 2 refresh rates.
oh yeah, enjoy your garbage colours, dead pixels, and degrading CCFL backlight after 2 years of usage
LCDs are gameboy tech, and they will never be as good as CRTs.

 10191

>>10152
why do flatscreen trannies not understand this?
is this really how fucking retarded they are?
that explains why they actually think flatscreens are better LOL
oh and to top it off, https://testufo.com
if you think that LCDs can even remotely keep up with CRTs, go follow the UFO with your eyes while it moves, you should set your monitor to 60hz and its native res
on a CRT you can use any res you want, like 1600x1200 or 640x480, and 60-120hz
anything around that will also work, but its unfair to compare a 400hz crt to a 60hz lcd
since crts flicker, your motion blur will effectively be ZERO.
your blacks will actually look like real blacks, if your entire screen is turned on but black it will look like its turned off, and not fucking grey like an LCD.
(assuming you didnt fuck up the contrast)
>>10159

>sudo

>muh package managers le bad
theyre convenient, and if you use a sane distro you can compile shit into packages and install them with your package manager, then uninstall them cleanly and nicely
...or use binaries if you want to
some package managers like portage/emerge/aur-helpers download source code directly and compile it into packages you install
the reason for them is that you dont want a system cluttered up with a ton of manually installed files, libs, and all this shit
if you have dependencies you dont pack them into an .exe, you just ask your package manager to install them as well if theyre missing
to uninstall shit you dont have to keep 20 .exe installers floating around, and wont have residual garbage data either
oh, and you can update your whole system with one command instead of manually letting every program self update, which is literally what malware does

 10192

>>10166
>a copy of everything to rebuild a comfy win7 machine
oh yeah, no updates until the end of time, no source code, and no hardware or software support
enjoy your abandonware and not even being able to fucking compile it yourself
>durr hurr you all use apt-get
no, i have a local up-to-date copy of all the source code needed to build my entire system from scratch without internet, including all the dependencies for them
its literally as easy as git cloning my repos and running git pull from time to time, then running makepkg -sir on some package i want
i can compile my own isos as well, and manually copypaste all the package files onto it to pacstrap rather than downloading them from the internet, or for gentoo you have your stage3 tarball

im not sure on clang because GCC still has nonstandard idiosyncrasies that it uses for vendor lock-in. e.g. every other compiler uses pragma pack but GCC uses I am not joking, attribute((packed)). I am not sure how far along clang is with implementing GCC proprietary features.
