i bought a pinephone thinking i get a portable arm computer without proprietary shitware
found out that its super buggy, needs a 50$ keyboard you buy separately that is shittier than any thinkpad keyboard or let alone the cheapest mechanical keyboard you can find for 20$, and you dont even get working wifi, bluetooth, etc... because all this bullshit needs proprietary blobs
(it does work but i refuse to run proprietary software to make the hardware work)
same goes for the modem, i disable it anyway because its spyware
in the end you get a shitty arm computer with only a single usb c port and some pogo pins plus headphone jack serial (or uart, whatever) as I/O, dogshit cameras, no wifi or bluejooz, and no proper keyboard
all that for uh, 200$ plus 50$ keyboard was it?
oh and did i mention that its an absolute potato?
even the gui shit lags, this doesnt happen on any old thinkpad if youre not running kde and 200 background shits on a 144hz monitor in 4k
1600x1200 works just fine on any 15 year old twinkpad, at 85hz or anything below it
heck you can even play games on an X200 (realistically i mean, not just gamegoy games and pong)
all dreamcast games i have tried run at full speed at 480p, i tested jet set radio, crazy taxi, sonic adventure 1 and 2, shenmue, and postal 1

basically i only use my pinephone to take pictures now but cant even do that anymore after running pacman -Syu because it said 'hey fuck you lol update broke your camera program, not our problem' and it just crashes whenever i try to save a picture
i did switch from pmOS to arch-arm because for some reason focus in the camera broke and whenever i did have focus on something and actually tried to take a picture, it UNFOCUSED and then took the picture

6 years isnt this far away, i exclusively use hardware thats 15 years old, aside from my 11 year old rare amd server
all of this is because modern hardware has intel ME or amd PSP bullshit backdoors and prevents me from really doing anything with it and running libreboot on it, which is super useful especially for servers and gets rid of all those artificial software restrictions nobody asked for, makes your shit boot 20 times faster, etc...
you cant cope forever with ancient phones because they will shut down the old celltowers at some point
you CAN use old computers tho because they dont need modern garbage to work, not even to connect to the internet
and even then, its all backwards compatible anyway

pinephone pro with keyboard attachment is comfy, I use a VoIP service for calling and texting. I had the original pinephone but it shit, slow and limited, unlike that one I use my ppPro as my daily driver. I currently have Manjaro and plasma mobile running on it.
