imagine paying thousands of shekels for a hunk of burning in junk instead of picking up a cheap CRT from a dumpster sale that has zero motion blur, excellent colours, and can do any resolution and refresh ratee in its frequency range
why do zoomers always fall for the new LE GOOD memes?

 6980

crt is nostalgiaslop, white men use IPS

>muh nostalg-ACK!
nowhere nearly as good image quality and response time

 6989

Erm can I get a 1080p tier crt doe???

 6990

>>6979
>Thinks CRTs are cheap/can be found in dumpsters circa 2023
Obvious LARP or bait

 6991

You will not find a viewsonic or a trinitroon sitting in a dumpster, you will find some nigger's burned-in TV with bad caps

 6992

why not just make modern tier CRTs using modern resolution standards and shit doe

 6993

>>6992
They don't have the level of competence and manufacturing precision to make a Trinitron tube anymore. Companies have tried to restart production a couple times

 6994

People think that technology since the 2000s has been advancing in quality/sophistication but it has actually only increased in scale/cheapness

 6995

>>6993
>literally old forgotten magiteck
MARGE I THOUGHT THIS JUST HAPPENEF IN SCI-FI SLOP STORIES

CRTs don't have physical pixels or "native resolutions", you get a frequency range and a minimal refresh rate and resolution (usually 240p/480p and 50/60Hz), they can vary a lot
some CRTs can be pushed to 160Hz while others can be pushed to 500Hz+, some can do 1080p and 2K, others can do 4K and more
im not even talking about interlacing btw, thats another story and allows you to get even more insane resolutions.
i just set my crt to 2048x1536, because my 15 year old potato gpu doesnt support more
when i hooked my crt up to my 780ti i could throw shit like 3200x1800 at it, WITHOUT interlacing. its insane

 6997

>>6994
erm semiconductors keep becoming faster more energy efficient and smaller doe????

where can I become CRTpilled

>>6990
i got my 2070sb for 50$ off a dumpster sale, its considered the 2nd/3rd best tube ever made, and one of the best monitors ever made in general
>>6991
i literally found a diamondtron in a dumpster
>>6992
because modern resolutions and refresh rates can't compare to good CRTs, the average monitor is still 1080p@60 and not 3200x1800@80
>>6993
in other words, they kicked out all the "boring old white men" and replaced them with pajeets who have no idea what theyre doing, and theyre too retarded to assemble a tube
>>6994
this, by 2000 they basically perfected CRTs but decided to trash them and downgrade everyone to flatscreens, which STILL cant keep up with CRTs in most points
the only points they can keep up with is being thin and lightweight, having better blacks than a CRT (OLED), burning in slower than a CRT (LCD) (or faster if youre an OLED cuck), and eating less power
>>6998
dig around on ebay, faceberg marketplace, craigs list, and other fleamarket like sites, as well as fleamarkets in real life
you do need to be lucky and lurk for a few weeks or even months until you get a good offer like a 2070sb for 50$, so don't expect to find a bunch of them there being offered the first time you check because there are a lot of schizos like me who will snipe them in less than a minute after they have been offered.
basically, first come first serve.

File: 1687818147497.jpg (1.22 MB, 4032x2268, 420hz wintoddler crt.jpg)ImgOps

heres a 420Hz CRT, uncalibrated and set to very low res, because wintoddlers cant into calibration or however the backdoors and bill gates are closed sourced

 7006

can i get a crt to do 4K res at 60hz doe????

 7007

>>7006
you can do more than 4K on good CRTs, like 3200x1800
sometimes on 80Hz and up, LCD cucks only get 4K@60 with hdmi lol, a monitor from fucking 2002 could do higher resolutions and refresh rates than your crappy hdmi piece of modern shit, IMAGINE!

 7008

>>7006
not to mention that you won't actually need more than 1600x1200 anyway because CRTs have natural anti aliasing, you can crank down the resolution and anti aliasing in video games and it'll still look great because CRTs don't have to upscale shit to native pixels like mental illness LCDs

COLOR CRTs do have a maximum resolution defined by the dot pitch (B&W TVs do not have pitch). You can make them display higher resolutions but you will not actually have a higher resolution image because the dot pitch is a set size. For example, to display WQXGA PROPERLY on a 30in display, you need a maximum dot pitch of 250µm. I have a PoS PIXIE CRT for example that cannot display any resolution over 800x600 clearly without the image becoming blurry.

Once the foundational boomer engineers who have refused to ever retire die out, literally most of our stuff will be lost esoteric magiteck. And slowly but surely people will be taught that such things never really existed, or that they were always fakes.

 7018

>>7001
Wtf is a "dumpster sale" and where do I find one

 7019

CRT's are epic

 7020

>>7001
>Ebay or faceberg sheckelplace
Those places have all gotten infested with people who sell them for "retro gaming" and "super smash bros tournaments" and price gouge beyond belief

>>7001
>2070sb
>One is on Ebay for $9000, one from Ukraine a bargain at $1000
Where is this dumpster sale of yours please tell

Does anyone have an idea of a budget CRT for ‘tari 2600? Currently i just use a shitty old “HD”TV and a coax adapter.

fleamarket, ebay, faceberg marketplace, etc...
boomers sell their shit really cheap and often don't know what the hell they're actually selling, usually because they move or the previous owner died and the son/daughter/new house owner/etc has to clean the house up really fast while still making a bit of profit
>>7009
this is a cheap old shadow mask CRT, theyre usually garbage and don't come anywhere close to trinitrons
on a trinitron you have RGB stripes
pic rel shows them, you get a ""maximum resolution"" of 2K or something, but in reality they will have proper sub-"pixel" scaling and only illuminate lets say the bottom left corner of the phosphorus stripe, unlike LCDs where you illuminate the entire red part of the pixel and need gay sub pixel scaling for fonts
its not defined by the dot pitch or line pitch, but by how many dots/lines you have.
on garbage crts you can throw maybe 1024x768 on it and still have a fully sharp image, on better CRTs you can throw 1600x1200 or 2K on it and anything beyond that gets blurred
>i have a garbage crt that cant display anything beyond 800x600 clearly
this happens on dumpster sales too, don't expect to get the holy grail of CRTs by buying a random curved trash monitor you don't even know the name of, theyre good as burner screens and for low res stuff but bad for anything HD
i use a cheap 10$ CRT for shitposting myself because i don't want to keep my 2070sb running 24/7 and waste its lifespan just to view soyjaks.
>>7017
>the year is 2050
>"what are you talking about 'there were monitors without any motion blur' how is that even possible? they all have pixel response times zoom zoom"
>>7020
also true, you need to find them sold by boomers who have no clue what they're selling, and don't know that retroomers would pay them x10 the price
>>7021
KEK, you need to actually lurk and wait for new offers, if there's a good one of course people will snipe it in mere minutes, so have fun writing an ebay scraper bot!
theres a 2070sb on ebay-kleinanzeigen for 600€ or so right now, ranfag wants to buy this one when the price drops to <100 but i want to piss him off and snipe it before he does, or literally anyone else can buy it because i already have a 2070sb and all that matters to me now is that ranfag doesn't get it.
>>7022
if you need composit video or SCART, literally any CRT TV will do, but try to get a small one
i can't help you with any proprietary connectors and signals, but you can figure out how they work and convert/adapt them, usually its the same shit but different voltage so all you need is a voltage divider for example. converting composite video to RGB or RGB to composite video is another story, you actually need a chip that does all the converting for that.

 7071

>>7007
What are a few good CRTs to look for besides the 2070sb

 7073

>>7058
>2050
>No there was never any computers that worked good
>We didn't have medicine that actually worked and cured diseases either, that's a psyop
>Or heat in winter
>Or nukes, those were fake
>Also German engineers were always black and they could never build machines that took men to the moon, that's fake and gay
>*Mandatory unskippable advertisement/agitprop plays loudly on cheap Chinese P.A. system*
>I'm trans by the way. We all are, it's 2050

 7074

>>7058
>composit video or SCART
Also look up how do perform an RGB mod on an old CRT. For most of them, it's relatively trivial to open them up and find three traces to solder an actual RGB interface to them so you aren't trapped in HDMI-to-composite-converter hell

 7076

>>7071
GDM-F520, GDM-FW900, Eizo F980, or any of their rebrands
essentially companies buy the tubes and slap them into a different chassis but theyre all more or less the same thing, just with a different name and maybe different OSD
>>7073
>what did you say? they made babies by sticking unmutilated genitals into other unmutilated genitals?
>whats sex?
>oh i heard about sex, but non-homo sex?? isnt that illegal or something?
>what did you say, babies weren't always made in labs?
>>7074
>HDMI to composite
IMAGINE using hdmi kek, i use vga

 7078

>>7076
displayport is better than high detritus media interface

 7079

>>7078
still digicoal though so CRT support is ass

 7080

>>6979
>>6986
CRTs just suck, you've been making these threads for months

 7081

>>7080
>ghosting as fuck

 7082

>>7078
still shittier than vga
>>7080
this is my second crt thread, and you're just mad that you can't find a cheap good CRT because you're a mutt lol
>>7081
imagine the motion blur...

 7083

>>7082
yeah but at least it doesn't have fucking (((high definition coal production))) DRM bullshit

 7084

>>7083
DP does support HDCP from what i know

 7085

>>7084
fuck

 7086

>>6996
as you see here, VGA can easily do 2K
my GPU doesn't support 4K so it doesnt work sadly, but it would work on my CRT
the phosphorus cant display such detail on such a "small" screen anyway doe, and my eyes couldnt even see it in the first place so there is no reason to do it other than for pissing off flatscreen cucks

 7160

>>7076
Yeah VGA all the way for analogue video. I've seen a lot of coally projects with old CRTs where the only way they could find to drive it is one of those $10 HDMI-to-composite converters, or else use the native composite out on a raspberry pi. Timing smears everywhere.
It's very easy to mod a VGA (or any other analog RGB) input into most color CRTs.

 7161

>>7080
It's good bait

 7162

>>7086
VGA over BNC can go wayyy over 2k. But you need some old studio equipment to accept it, or else do some modification. But it is the most Aryan of all analog video formats

 7163

>>7162
studio equipment? more like airport LCD TVs.
