First of all, the strains of weed used in the past are child’s play compared to the strains of weed popular today. Most stoners wouldn’t even feel it. On top of that, this weed wasn’t being directly inhaled, it was being hotboxed in yurts n shit. Mostly for medicinal and ritual reasons.
Secondly, there is actually not very much evidence for the ritual use of psychedelics in most ancient societies. Retarded stoner scholars just assume that these cultures used psychedelics because they don’t even have the imagination to believe ancient people could achieve states of religious ecstasy purely through willpower. And this really gets to the problem here, psychedelics are not associated with good, positive religious behavior. It’s either the dark shamanism of injuns and Siberians which often spirals into excusing degenerate behavior on behalf of the shamans (ex: crossdressing), or it forms the pessimistic, life denying ideas we see among the decadent hindoo sages. Nietzsche talks about this so they say.
